2/4/10 Egypt Notes

A Mesabi is a stepped pyramid. The old kingdom was the first dynastic era of ancient Egypt. They think the Sphinx is the protector of the Pharaoh. Napoleon was the first European to visit and invade Egypt. The middle kingdom runs from 2030 to 1640 B.C.
There is no more monumental Pyramid building after this era. They believed in Osiris and Iris. They were the Egyptian gods. Akhenaten introduces monotheism. King Tut didn't do much but he is the most famous Pharaoh that we know. Egypt was at war with the Newmedians in the South and a lot of other people. The Persians invade Egypt and conquer the dynasties. The Persian empire stretched from Turkey to Egypt. Greeks came down and started to colonize around Egypt. Dolmen are stacks of huge rocks that are usually used as burial grounds. Menhirs are standing stones. We don't really know what Stonehenge was built for.
